After entering the mortgage industry upon graduating from college in the summer of 2002, Michael Smalley has risen from a Loan Officer to become the Florida Regional Manager of Waterstone Mortgage Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Waterstone Bank.  He is a nationally recognized mortgage expert on the topics of mortgage planning and business plan implementation.  Always looking to increase his knowledge of the mortgage and financial markets, Michael was the first mortgage originator in Florida to receive both the Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist® and Certified Mortgage Advisor™ designations.

An accomplished public speaker, Michael is the youngest person to be a featured speaker in the history of the LoanToolbox Business Plan Conference, and holds monthly training workshops for Realtors across Florida.  Michael has also presented at the Mortgage Revolution Conference in Atlanta in January 2010 and at Sales Mastery in Palm Desert, California in October 2011.

Michael and his two business partners manage 4 offices for Waterstone Mortgage across Florida.  Their original location in Winter Park opened in April 2008, followed by Ft. Walton Beach in January 2010, Jupiter in April 2010, and Ft. Myers in December 2011.

In addition to managing a team of 40 employees, Michael is an active Loan Originator, and personally closed 110 mortgages for 21 million in volume in 2010.

Michael and his wife Jacqueline live in Winter Park, FL with their sons Gavin and Dillon, and daughter Paige.  Both Michael and Jacqueline are graduates of Florida State University, where Michael was a pitcher on the Varsity Baseball Team.

Prior to his career in the mortgage industry, Michael was a professional baseball player in the Atlanta Braves organization.
